Let's Talk In English About Balance! Is There,Or Is There Not Balance In The Modern World Of Rapid Change?
On June 15, SARGOI Community’s Meet & Greet meeting was held with Anastasia Rybak - founder of the community, international teacher trainer, and teacher of business English.
The goal of this Meet & Greet was to share personal experiences and reflections on building balance in today's life with rapid change, where we are forced to make decisions every day for the development of personal and professional potential.
The meeting consisted of three practical stages of communication in English:
1. Self-Observation / Self-Reflection: Participants shared personal impressions concerning regular self-observation [‘introspection’?] and the ability to reflect daily behavior, thoughts or feelings; (“With self-reflection and self-observation, we develop more internal clarity and can become more open to the emotional lives of those around you.” from ‘How To Stay Alive’, by Philippa Perry)
2. Life-Work Balance Map: Participants drew a personal map of life balance;
3. Five Leadership Balance Points: The participants learned about five points of the balance of leader from Robin Sharma, which inspired them to further reflections and conclusions.
Here are 5 powerful thoughts from Robin Sharma to recap the Meet & Greet message:
- “It’s not about the end goal, it’s about who you become by consistently pushing to the edge of your limits.”
- “The way you start your day determines how well you live your day.”
- “Dream big, start small, act now.”
- “Victims make excuses. Leaders deliver results.”
- “The quality of your life is determined by the quality of your thoughts.”
Here are 4 questions to consider:
- Is self-reflection important? Why/Why not?
- What do you think of this activity?
- Is self-observation important? Why? Why not?
- What do you think of this activity?
5 balance points of leadership from Robin Sharma
- Be part Saint and part Warrior
- Success balanced with Significance
- Ideation balanced with Execution
- Excellence balanced with Contentment
- Value Creation versus Instant Gratification
Questions are powerful. Reflect on these 4 again:
- How do you define success?
- How does society define success?
- What are your top 5 life values?
- What 5 things would you celebrate about your life now?
