Pinocchio Day

Pinocchio Day

February: Voices & Identity

Pinocchio is a famous wooden puppet who first appeared in 1883 in the children’s book The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. The story was published in Italy at a time when many writers were creating moral tales to teach children about honesty, responsibility, and hard work. Pinocchio’s nose grows longer when he lies, which has become a powerful cultural symbol of dishonesty around the world. In 1940, Walt Disney Productions released the animated film Pinocchio, which made the character even more popular internationally. Today, Pinocchio remains an important figure in children’s literature and continues to influence books, films, and popular culture.

The word of the day:  puppet (noun)/ˈpʌpɪt/

Meaning: a toy person made of wood or cloth that someone moves with strings or hands.
