Day Without Phones

Day Without Phones

February: Voices & Identity

The first person to think of a "smart" phone was Theodore Paraskevakos in 1971, but the first real smartphone was the IBM Simon, which came out in 1994. Later, in 2007, Apple released the iPhone, which changed everything. Before smartphones, people used separate cameras, maps, and music players. Now, we have all these tools in one device. However, some people think we spend too much time on our screens. So once a year we celebrate a day without phones to feel less stressed, sleep better and spend more time with our family and friends.

The word of the day:  phubber (noun)/ˈfʌbər/

Meaning: a person who looks at their phone and ignores other people.

Example: He is a phubber and looks at his phone all the time.
