Shakespeare wrote plays about love, power, friendship, jealousy and ambition.

His works were performed in theatres such as the Globe, where people from different social backgrounds came to watch plays.

Life in Elizabethan England was very different from life today, but Shakespeare’s characters and ideas still feel familiar.

His creative use of language also introduced many memorable expressions into English.
