The peace and independence of Ukraine are protected by courageous defenders.

Men and women—including soldiers, doctors, and rescue workers—show great bravery every day to keep people safe.

Remembering their service and sacrifice is an important duty for everyone.

In towns and cities across Ukraine, people share a minute of silence, bring flowers to memorials, and display flags to honor the heroes who gave their lives so future generations could live in peace.

The word of the day:  to honour /ˈɒn.ər/

Meaning: to show great respect or praise to someone or something.

Example: Every year on August 29, we honour the brave people who protect our country.
