Всесвітній день китів і дельфінів було засновано у 1986 році, саме тоді була введена заборона на китовий промисел. Це свято має на меті привернути увагу всього світу до питань збереження популяції китів та дельфінів. Забруднення океанів і морів дуже негативно впливають на їх розмноження.
