Oscar Wilde was born in Dublin in 1854 and became one of the most influential Irish writers of the Victorian period.Famous for his sharp wit, humour and brilliant use of language, Wilde was much more than an entertaining writer.

He challenged the values and expectations of Victorian society.

Wilde was closely associated with Aestheticism, a movement that celebrated beauty, art and individual expression.
