Why the Shamrock?

Why the Shamrock?

October: Ireland

The shamrock is one of the best-known symbols of Ireland.

According to a traditional story, Saint Patrick used a three-leafed plant to explain the idea of the Holy Trinity.

Over time, the shamrock became strongly connected with Irish identity and Saint Patrick’s Day.

Today, people around the world wear shamrock decorations on 17 March.

Although it is a small and simple plant, it has a big place in Irish culture.

The word of the day:  recognisable /ˈrekəɡnaɪzəbəl/
