Maria Prymachenko

Maria Prymachenko

August: Ukraine

Maria Prymachenko was one of Ukraine’s most famous folk and naive art painters.

Living in a small village, she created colorful paintings filled with mythical creatures, vibrant flowers, and scenes of rural life.

Her distinctive style used bold colors, flat decorative patterns, and warm messages about peace and nature.

Even Pablo Picasso admired her creative works: ''It looks simple, but it might be the most genuine art I have ever seen..."

Today her art remains a bright symbol of Ukrainian optimism and cultural heritage.

The word of the day:  naive art /naɪˌiːv ˈɑːt/

Meaning: visual work created by artists who learn independently, not in art schools; everyday life, family moments, bright colours and fantastic creatures are features of the style.

Example: Maria Prymachenko became famous for her naive art.
