Bloomsday

June: Stories That Unite Us

Bloomsday is celebrated every year in Ireland and around the world. It honors the famous Irish writer James Joyce and his novel Ulysses. The story takes place in one day, June 16, 1904, and follows the life of a man named Leopold Bloom in Dublin. On this day, people read parts of the book, dress in old-fashioned clothes, and visit places from the story. Bloomsday shows the importance of literature in culture and how books can connect people across time and place.

The word of the day:  a fictional character (collocation)/ˈfɪkʃənəl ˈkærəktər/

Meaning: a person in a story, film, or book who is not real.

Example: Harry Potter is a famous fictional character.
