World Consumer Rights Day

World Consumer Rights Day

March: Change & Responsibility

Consumer rights are rules that protect people when they buy products or use services. These rights became more important in the 20th century, when factories started making large numbers of goods and advertising became common. In 1962, U.S. President John F. Kennedy spoke about four basic consumer rights: the right to safety, to get correct information, to choose, and to be heard. After that, many countries created laws to protect customers from dangerous products and false information. Today, consumer rights help people feel safe and confident when they shop.

The word of the day:  warranty (noun) /ˈwɒrənti/

Meaning: a written promise from a company to repair or replace a product if it has a problem within a certain time.

Example: The phone comes with a two-year warranty, so the company will fix it if it breaks.
