International Women's Day

International Women's Day

March: Change & Responsibility

This special day started more than 100 years ago because women wanted to have the same rights as men, like the right to vote and to have better jobs. It began with brave women marching in the streets of cities like New York to ask for "Bread and Roses"—which means enough food and a good quality of life. Today, this day is part of our culture to say "thank you" to the women in our lives. We celebrate the amazing things women do in science, sports, and art. It is a day to remember that girls can be anything they want to be, from doctors to presidents.

The word of the day:  empower (verb) /ɪmˈpaʊə(r)/

Meaning: to give someone confidence and power to do something.

Example: The project helps empower young girls.

  Your MINI-TASK:

1. Learn the idiom, explore its possible origin.
2. Write 1– 2 sentences using it.
3. Share your sentences in the chat.
