World Bartender Day

World Bartender Day

February: Voices & Identity

Bartenders became especially important in the 19th century, when public houses were central to social life in countries like the USA and the UK. During the era of the American frontier, bartenders were key figures in saloons, which became cultural symbols of the Wild West. Later, in the early 20th century, events like Prohibition changed drinking culture and led to the rise of secret bars called speakeasies. Today, bartenders are often seen not only as servers, but also as skilled mixologists who create new cocktails and help shape modern nightlife culture.

The word of the day:  booze (noun) /buː z/

Meaning: alcoholic drinks

Example: The bartender served different kinds of booze at the party.
