International Children's Book Day

International Children's Book Day

April: Nature, Science & Wonder

This day promotes reading and children’s literature. The date was chosen to honor the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen, a famous writer of fairy tales like The Little Mermaid and The Ugly Duckling. This day was created by the International Board on Books for Young People to encourage children around the world to discover the joy of books. In many countries, schools and libraries organize reading events, storytelling, and book fairs. Today, this holiday reminds us that books help children learn, imagine, and understand different cultures.

The word of the day:  read aloud (collocation)/riːd əˈlaʊd/

Meaning: to read so others can hear you

Example: The teacher reads stories aloud in class.
