World Water Day

World Water Day

March: Change & Responsibility

World Water Day reminds people how important water is for life. The day was created by the United Nations in 1993 to raise awareness about global water problems. Water is necessary for drinking, growing food, and keeping people healthy. In many cultures, water is also a symbol of life and renewal. On World Water Day, schools and communities learn about saving water and protecting rivers, lakes, and oceans so that everyone can have clean water in the future.

The word of the day:  water shortage (noun phrase) /ˈwɔːtə ˈʃɔːtɪdʒ/

Meaning: a situation when there is not enough water.

Example: Some places have water shortages in summer because there is not enough rain.
